Teaching kids how to solve problems

Lessons from Flexible Mindsets for Long Term Success

Twelve educators developed lesson plans to teach kids different styles of problem solving, and how to bounce back when whatever you are trying doesn’t work the way you expected it to.

These are lessons about iterating, solving complex issues, planning, design thinking, some are designed for early elementary students all the way through high school and even professional development for adults.

As one of the participants said,

From this course, I will take away a clearer understanding of how to approach different problems using the Cynefin Framework and OODA loops. I now recognize that simple, complicated, complex, and chaotic situations require different strategies. I’ve learned the value of using slow OODA loops to build new competencies in complex situations and transitioning to fast OODA loops when fluency is gained. I will also focus on creating feedback loops for real-time learning and iteration. This course has helped me embrace a more flexible, reflective approach to problem-solving and decision-making in my school and classroom.

Here are the presentations, and reach out to me if there are any lessons you would like to use.
